On the Road: Palm Beach

Last week we explored Palm Beach, on the hunt for the best thrift, consignment, and antique stores, while staying at the loveliest property, the Ritz Carlton Palm Beach.

Its so easy to get to this (warm) neck of the woodsflights go all day from NYC to Fort Lauderdale, which is just 45 minutes south of Palm Beach. Its definitely more convenient to fly into Palm Beach, but the last flight there goes around 2pm, which isnt convenient if you need to work a full day.

These are some of the public spaces in the Ritz Carlton, which are so lovely.

Some pretty details and flowers throughout the lobby

The spa is very whimsicalI like that they had a customized scrub bar.

Above is the Club Lounge for the hotelif youre traveling with a family and staying at a Ritz Carlton, I would always recommend booking the Club level, even though its more expensive. They have breakfast, lunch, snacks, and drinks (yes even wine, champagne, cocktails) throughout the day, until 10pm. Its a bargain if you use it. Below is the breakfast setup.

We discovered some new consignment shops, and got some great stuff, like 1960s Gucci loafers, Pauline Trigere coatvintage cookbooksand lots of great dinner plates and coupe glasses. Unfortunately we could only buy the books and clothes, which are easy to pack up in a box and not worry about breaking. Once we found some great things that we knew would never fit into our luggage, we headed straight for a storage facility, and bought a box and tape, so we could check it in as our luggage.

I always bring a notebook on a trip, and tape up business cards in it. These were our favorite shops we found. We also loved the vintage and thrift shopping in Del Ray.

One of our favorite spots to get a cafe con leche is at El Bohio in Lantana, which is really close to the Ritz Carlton, on the Dixie Highway, which is where most of the shopping is.

We ended our day at Angle, the stellar, thoughtful restaurant in the Ritz Carlton. They are very careful about their sourcing, and get most of the produce from nearby organic farms. We had a wild boar tenderloin, a strip steak from a Nebraska farm, and the most amazing brussel sprouts, which were finished in local honey. The chef, Matthew McGhee, has really great ideas about food, and is someone to watch!
